Discipline Among the House
The Penance pillar
The Penance pillar is a 3 foot marble poll situated in a semi-public location and is used for two different styles of discipline dependent on what is given.
The first is known as the "Disciplined Mind". The offender is required to hold on the pillar while the one that executes the punishment is behind. The normal punishment is usually the use of a small, thin rod which the offender receives on the back of the lower thighs or the buttocks.
They are normally naked for this. If they let go of the pillar or move in a way to cause the disciplinarian to miss, everything resets and they must go through it again until the required amount is taken care of.
The other method is known as "Humble Repose". This is more of a passive embarrassment punishment. The offender is taken out, stripped, chained in a way that is uncomfortable and then left for a period of time for all to see. Due to the modesty code inherent in their society, being left out like that is considered extremely humiliating. Some Xalteans consider the whipping preferable.
