General Overview
The Innocentia Colonies was founded in 2181 by Great Shephard Youssef Al-Mansour on the primary world of Sanctus Lumina in the Rho Kappa star system.
Early Years
After the Void Wars of the early 2100s, much of the Earth Alliance was shattered and in a severe system wide depression. Though the Fragmentists had been defeated, it was a pyrrhic victory. Much of Earth’s surface had been ravaged in some way with multiple holy cities having been destroyed.
In an effort to escape the devastation, Youssef Al-Mansour who was an ex-soldier that saw the destruction and death first hand, found funding for three colony ships named Hope, Piety, and Love to make the journey to the newly discovered Rho Kappa Star System. They were funded by a contract with Spectros Industries as a sponsored mining colony. wThis remained the case for about seventy-three years until the passing of Al-Mansour.
Rebellion
In 2181, the new Great Shepherd Alexander Mikhailov who won by majority vote of the lower Grand Caretakers, after Kapoor declared a great pilgrimage and left the world with ardent followers in a colony ship for the unknown. Mikhailov issued a demand to the Earth Alliance for recognition and a culture change accepting their religion as the official religion of the world. This was, of course, denied by the Earth Alliance which, in turn, revoked the colony’s license. By this time though, the Innocentia were in control of seven-star systems and numerous outposts including the construction of their own fleet. In late 2181, the Earth Alliance sent a small taskforce to take control of the local government in concern of a future rebel but was met with force causing the defeat of the Alliance fleet and the capture of their heavy cruiser Nicola Tesla which became the Innocentia Colony flagship.
Due to issues with the Cosmotica Corporation preparing for a strike and other internal matters, Earth Alliance was not able to follow up. When they did in 2203, the Innocentia had grown to the size that only a full war would have suppressed them. Something the Earth Alliance did not have resources for.
For the most part, The Innocentia Colonies and Earth Alliance skirmished and had attrition strikes. Many times encounters between ships, nobody was sure who was going to fire first, if at all.
Threat of the Gorgon
In 2213, the Innocentia colonies became under attack by the parasitic species called the Gorgons which cost the Innocentia multiple task forces and colonies. In 2214, the homeworld of Sanctum Lumina was facing invasion when Commodore Takashi Suzuki of the Earth Alliance responded to an Innocentia distress call and brought his fleet in direct conflict defend their homeworld.
This changed the opinions of the ruling body and due to the continued threats of the Gorgon, in 2215, The Innocentia was one of the signatories to the Treaty of the Stars forming the Terran Confederacy.
Governmental Structure
The Innocentia Colonies are a theocracy where the Great Shepherd is believed to be appointed by God and, while in prayer, recieves direction on which direction to take the government. He is assisted by those known as the Great Caretakers, representatives from each colony world under Innocentia control.
The other part of the government structure is the unofficial Egalitarian tribal system where your family name and what line you are from can have a great influence on your future within politics, government and social standing. The nine primary families that settled the Innocentia Colonies were:
